Libertarians for Learning attends Pelican Institute’s Leadership Academy in 2022

President Amy Misko was offered free tuition to attend Pelican Institute’s Leadership Academy in 2022.  The program was 1o months long and held in Baton Rouge, LA near the State Capitol.  The program educated and introduced candidates to state legislators regarding innovative political policy initiatives promoting more freedom and less regulations for all of Louisiana.  We learned about changes in education by Senator Sharon Hewett who promoted and passed legislation for Education Savings Account (ESA’s) for all children in Louisiana.  (Unfortunately, later vetoed by Governor Edwards).  This is the concept that promotes “the tax dollars follow the child”.  Parents can use the ESA’s for private education, charter schools, supplemental education courses, tutoring or other education needs for their children.  Pelican Institute is working to eliminate barriers to employment such as expensive state pre-licensing requirements and opening the job markets to all by lowering licensing fees.  Pelican Institute is also promoting the elimination of the state income tax, to allow Louisiana to compete for new businesses from neighboring states like Tennessee, Texas and Florida which are states FREE of state income taxes.  At the closing ceremony in November 2022, Amy Misko on behalf of Libertarians for Learning delivered a $1,000 donation to sponsor 2 candidates to the Leadership Academy for 2023.
